In „Portrait of my Mother“, Mexican director Tavo Ruiz recounts the moment that was to have a lasting effect on his mother’s life. Ruiz chose the essay film form in order to express his mother’s painful memories of her abuse. The film takes a cautious look at the deep scars of child abuse, encouraging abuse survivors to talk about their experiences and thus break the cycle of violence.

This film will be available as a supporting film to „Overseas“.

Der Film richtet behutsam den Blick auf die tiefen Narben, die Kindesmissbrauch hinterlässt und macht Betroffenen zugleich Mut, über ihre Erlebnisse zu sprechen und so den Kreislauf der Gewalt zu durchbrechen.
