Facing Mirrors/Aynehaye Rooberoo

Iran.

Preise: u.a. Jury Award for Best Feature – 2012 San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, Grand Prix Chéries-Chéris – 2012 Paris Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

„Facing Mirrors” is a movie about friendship and bonding notwithstanding all differences. It is tale about courage and power of will standing strong against all obstacles. It stars two wonderful and powerful actresses, one of which (Shayeste Irani) made her first Bimovie entrance in the wake of Bimovie 14 as the „butchiest“ football fan from Jafar Panahi’s film „Offside“.

In the Islamic Republic of Iran homosexuality is still illegal and can be punishable by death. Transgender identity is recognized through a sex reassignment surgery. However, transsexuality is still a taboo and in Iranian society and no law exists protecting post-operative transsexuals from discrimination.

A topic-related documentary worth seeing is „Be Like Others“ from Tanaz Eshaghian (Iran 2008).
