Als Zoe eines Abends einkauft, sitzt plötzlich ein mysteriöses Kind in ihrem Einkaufswagen. Kurz darauf verlässt sie den Supermarkt mit viel mehr Dingen, als sie eigentlich kaufen wollte, um zu einer unangenehmen Nacht der Entdeckungen aufzubrechen. Amy Neil entwickelte das Drehbuch zu The Child aus einem Kurzroman der Autorin Ali Smith.
English: While Zoe is shopping one evening, she suddenly notices a mysterious child sitting in her shopping trolley. She leaves the supermarket shortly thereafter with many more things than she bargained for, in order to set out on an unpleasant night of discoveries. Amy Neil developed the script for The Child from a novella by Ali Smith.

Die schottische Regisseurin Lynne Ramsay hat den Film als psychotischen Thriller inszeniert.
Zeitebenen überschneiden sich, die Farbe Rot zieht sich als Leitfaden durch den ganzen Film. Nach und nach entspinnt sie das Gewirr aus Erinnerungen und ersten Anzeichen bis hin zur Geschichte eines Desasters. Sie zeigt, wie das normale Leben in eine Katastrophe ungeahnten Ausmaßes schlittern kann.
Die ehemalige Reisejournalistin und Abenteurerin Eva trägt eine schwere seelische Last. Grund ist ihr Kind Kevin, das bereits als Baby eine eigenwillige Distanz zeigt, die es Mutter Eva schwer macht, Nähe aufzubauen. Während Vater Franklin an seinem Sohn nichts Ungewöhnliches sieht, ist Eva besorgt über die mangelnde Empathie und seine Lust an Zerstörung. Tilda Swinton verkörpert in dem international viel diskutierten Film die Rolle der Eva: " Bei den Vorbereitungen des Films haben Regisseurin Lynne Ramsay und ich festgestellt, dass diese Geschichte mit echter Kindererziehung so viel zu tun hat wie Rosemary's Baby mit einer echten Schwangerschaft."
Ist nicht jede Mutter Opfer des alltäglichen, herrschenden Erwartungsdrucks? Lynne Ramsay und Tilda Swinton haben vier Jahre am Drehbuch gearbeitet, um ein schwieriges Thema nicht in einfache Stammtischweisheiten oder Plattheiten absinken zu lassen, sondern um Fragen, Diskussionen und weiterführende Gedanken anzuregen.
Für ihre darstellerische Leistung wurde Tilda Swinton mehrfach ausgezeichnet – unter anderem mit dem Europäischen Filmpreis 2012. Ein Muß für alle Tilda Swinton-Fans.
English: The Scottish director Lynne Ramsay composed the film as a psychotic thriller.
The layers of time overlap one another, the colour red runs through the whole film like the main thread. Bit by bit, it unravels the confusion of memories and first signs, right up to the story of a disaster. She shows how normal life can slide into a catastrophe of unforeseen dimensions.
The former travel journalist and adventurer, Eva, carries a heavy emotional burden. The reason is her child Kevin, who already demonstrated a misanthropic distance as a baby, which makes it difficult for the mother, Eva, to instil affinity. While father Franklin sees nothing unusual in his son, Eva is worried about the lack of empathy and his desire for destruction. In this internationally much-discussed film Tilda Swinton portrays the rôle of Eva: "During preparation for the film director Lynne Ramsay and I discovered that this story has so much to do with the real bringing-up of children as Rosemary's Baby has to do with real pregnancy."
Is it not so that each and every mother is the victim of the pressures of expectations embedded in everyday life? Lynne Ramsay and Tilda Swinton spent four years working on the screenplay, so that this difficult topic did not fall prey to simple cracker-barrel philosophies or banalities, but rather inspires questions, discussions and further thought.
Tilda Swinton won several awards for her acting performance – including Best Actress at the 24th European Film Awards. A must-see for all Tilda Swinton fans.
